Every day we are exposed to the elements – stress, pollution (VOG), toxins, and most importantly, UV radiation. These elements produce free radicals in your skin, and they are the root of skin damage, skin cancers and premature aging of our skin. Free radicals destroy the chemical makeup of our skin cells, preventing them from functioning properly, causing our skin to deteriorate, be more prone to cancers, brown spots, lines/wrinkles, dehydration, enlarging pores, sagging collagen and acne.

The most natural defense against free radical damage is antioxidants – they neutralize free radicals, restoring and protecting skin from damage. Antioxidants can be found in vitamins like C and A, or in plant extracts. Antioxidants are vital in the pursuit for healthy skin.

This is why the HydraFacial™ is so important – not only does it remove surface damage such as dead skin cells and impurities, but it also replenishes the skin with antioxidants through Vortex-Fusion®, the most advanced application of nutrients to the skin.

The HydraFacial MD is not just a quick-fix procedure – it helps improve the quality of your skin’s health. The resurfacing procedure cares for your skin inside and creates glowing skin on the outside. Each treatment provides cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and superior hydration.

The Vortex-Fusion® of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid repairs skin damage and dehydration. The HydraFacial MD® is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that delivers instant results with no discomfort or downtime.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses short, fine needles to penetrate the skin, causing ‘micro-injuries.’ The purpose is to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process, which activates collagen and elastin production. Microneedling can help significantly improve acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin texture.

Is there downtime after a Microneedling Treatment?

Patients should expect mild to moderate swelling and redness, similar to a mild sunburn. There may be some mild bruising in some patients as well. This will begin to minimize after 3 – 7 days post-treatment.  We recommend one treatment yearly to prevent sun and age-related skin changes, twice a year for reduced pores and glowing/toned skin, or a series of 3 – 5 (treatments) for the repair of sun damage, fine lines, and acne scarring.

Can PRP be paired with a Microneedling Treatment?

Adding PRP to a Microneedling treatment is an excellent method for maximizing the skin’s wound healing process. Your skin will experience an ultimate rejuvenating treatment, as the PRP supplies the skin with proteins and other growth factors that speed up the recovery process. (PRP is available at our Kona Office only)

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Using a blunt edge scalpel and a delicate touch, the provider abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.Removing epidermal skin allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers.

This treatment results in a more healthy and radiant skin and can be used to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as Dermasweep or peels.

Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyper-pigmentation, mild acne scarring, a lot of fine hair on their face or fine lines and wrinkles. The results are a more refined, smooth, glowing appearance.

Things to Know

  • Gentle with no side effects
  • No downtime
  • Results in smooth radiant skin
  • Intensifies results prior to a peel or Dermasweep

Hydrabrasion is a hydrafacial incorporating the use of a special diamond tip head to provides a professional level of exfoliation. This facial rejuvenation treatment stimulates dermal repair, promotes collagen and elastin production while increasing the skins ability to readily absorb post-treatment serums and products used at home.  This treatment may not be suitable for hypersensitive or actively inflamed acneic skin.

One of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of skin is by a Micropeel.  We offer a variety of micropeels in our office: glycolic, lactic, salicylic as well as organic fruit acid peels.  They can be used on the face, chest or arms, any area of skin damage.

The appropriate strength and composition of micropeel is applied to the skin and the skin’s reaction is carefully monitored. This process removes the outer layer of skin via microscopic sloughing.  This MicroPeel is non-invasive. While mild redness is possible for a few hours, there is not actually “peeling” of the skin.

A six-session package of micropeels is recommended for optimum results.

We also offer stronger, medium depth Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) Peels.

Peels Available:

  • TCA Peels
  • PCA Peels
  • Eminence Bueberry Detox
  • Firming Peel
  • Eminence Arctic Berry Peel
  • Skinceuticals MicroPeel 30
  • Five Berry Pigment Control Peel
  • Jessner’s Peel

TCA Peels (15% Peel & 30% Peel)

TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) is an analog of acetic acid, the active ingredient in vinegar. It is non-toxic and has been used for more than 20 years as a chemical skin peel by experienced physicians. It causes controlled cell turnover to the upper layers of sun-damaged skin, resulting in regenerative changes. Cosmetic benefits include collagen stimulation resulting in fine wrinkle reduction and tightening plus exfoliation, which improves texture and fades brown spots. Medical benefits include dramatic reduction and destruction of pre-skin cancers.

Our TCA peel appointment is 30 minutes for the face and 45min if you add the neck/chest or arms. It offers a range from superficial to medium-depth levels, which is controlled by the percent of the peel and the number of applications of TCA. Our patients report first experiencing a sensation of warmth. A few minutes into the peel application, a heat sensation is felt for a few minutes. Then it subsides to a warm sensation. The downtime is minimal and usually involves 1-3 days of pinkness, similar to a sunburn. This is followed by peeling on days 3-6. The deeper the peel, the more pinkness, and peeling is to be expected.

Outdoor activities should be limited during the healing period, but most people return to work the day following a peel. Keeping the skin heavily moisturized and protected with a zinc-based sunscreen of at least SPF 30 speeds healing and optimizes results.   New, healthier skin then replaces the older, photo-damaged skin. During this process, collagen production is stimulated over a period of 1-3 months.   Other areas such as the neck, chest, arms, hands, and lower legs can also be treated. Depending on the extent of photo-damage and the depth of the TCA peel, 1-3 treatments may be recommended.

From Our Patients

When I walk into Dr. Scheel’s office, I know I will be well taken care of. It’s the best of both worlds: a spa-like feeling met with the highest medical standards and care. I’ve been coming here for years to get HydraFacials, IPLs, and chemical peels. This is also the only place I go to for sunscreen and skin care products. I love Monica’s personal line she created in the last several years and would highly recommend it. What I especially love about this office is their attention to detail and the personalized experience I always receive. When I became pregnant with my son, they tailored my treatments to make sure that both me and my baby-on-the-way were safe the entire time.

From the minute you walk through the doors, the experience starts! I love everything about this office. From the staff, the products, and the many different procedures they offer. I have had everything from Botox , chemical peels and basal cell skin cancer removals. Regardless of the treatment or procedure the staff is extremely qualified and there to help you every step of the way.

A week ago I had a TCA peel with Linda Jo. She really impressed me with her knowledge and skill in applying the peel. She explained step by step the process and what I was going to feel making sure that I was comfortable all along the way. One week later I am very pleased with the results. I’ve noticed a decrease in brown spots and smother and clearer skin. Patsy the PA is also very knowledgeable. She stopped in for a couple of minutes to give me advice on a persistent rash. Very pleased with this office and the results. Already booked my next appointment with Linda Jo.

I came to Dr. Scheel’s office with a lot of sun damage accumulated over the years having lived in sunny climates most of my life. After just one IPL session, almost all the brown spots on my face disappeared. I was so happy with the results that I dared to try something I didn’t think I’d ever do … botox & fillers. Bye bye wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, hello plumper lips! I’m totally sold on these treatments and highly recommend Dr. Scheel and her staff if you have any skin-related concerns, cosmetic or medical. In fact, next time I’m going in for a skin exam because one of the PAs who gave me a peel recently noticed some spots on my arm that might be of concern. I love that they are not only focused on the cosmetic side of things but also on the lookout for medical issues that I may not have noticed. That’s genuine care of their patients!
