Cosmetic
As we age, our face starts to lose volume that was originally present during youth, resulting in hollowed features and a sunken appearance. Factors that contribute to aging of the skin include sun exposure, gravity, diet, genetics, and the overall use of facial muscles.
As one of the top nonsurgical providers in Hawaii, we offer cosmetic treatments at our Kailua-Kona and Waimea locations such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Daxxify®, which have been proven effective at softening the facial muscles and promoting a more youthful appearance; as well as dermal fillers Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, which are effective solutions for combating wrinkles, creases, and folds.
Here at Refresh by Dr. Monica & Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology,
we offer a variety of cosmetic injectables that can promote a
more youthful countenance and help you look your best.
Botox, Dysport, & Daxxify
Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify are wrinkle relaxers or neuromodulators. They are used to temporarily reduce muscle contractions and smooth skin wrinkles. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and there is no downtime. Numbing cream is offered to all of our patients to minimize discomfort. Results start appearing 2-5 days after the treatment and last 3-4 months. Our office offers a free 2 week follow visit/touch-up to all of our patients to ensure a perfect treatment.

What are Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify?
Botox (manufactured by Allergan), Dysport (manufactured by Galderma), and Daxxify (manufactured by Revance) are the three types of brands we carry in our office. Each brand has a slightly different recipe of a similar substance, Botulinum toxin A, but essentially works very similarly. Both products can help reduce or eliminate wrinkles and fine lines caused by repeated muscle contraction. The most important aspect of using these different products is not which one you choose, but ensuring that a reputable and respected provider is injecting you. Dr. Scheel and her PAs have years of training and experience in relaxer injections. Dr. Scheel is a Board Certified Dermatologist and has been using these relaxers for over 15 years. A knowledgeable injector will soften lines and features with the goal of relaxing lines instead of “freezing” the face.
What areas are treated with Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify?
At Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology, the most commonly treated areas include the crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead lines, “11’s” between the eyebrows, vertical lip lines, “bunny lines” on the nose, down turning of the mouth corners, chin wrinkles and the neck (platysmal bands). Botox and Dysport are also highly effective in treating excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and masseter hypertrophy (helping with teeth grinding and TMJ).
We believe in a natural look and don’t “overdo it” with our patients. With regular upkeep and visits to our injection specialists, you will find you look rejuvenated, more youthful, refreshed, and relaxed. While many men and women in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s come in to treat the lines that have already developed, there has been a movement of younger people seeking preventative treatment of lines and wrinkles.

Type of Fillers
Hyaluronic Acid(HA) Fillers
We utilize a variety of brands and types of hyaluronic acid filler to customize a cosmetic plan that caters to each individual’s needs. HA Fillers add immediate volume to an area, filling facial wrinkles and folds and restoring volume loss. Dr. Scheel and her PAs can discuss the specifics with you, and together you can determine what product will best suit you, leaving a natural and refreshed look.
For refining fine lines and superficial correction:
Restylane, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Kysse, Juvéderm XC and Volbella, are some of the fillers we use to treat softer areas such as the lips and lip lines, hollowing under eyes, and other fine facial lines. These fillers and our unique injection techniques allow us to smooth lines, correct volume loss, or restore those kissable lips.
For lifting the deeper folds:
Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Juvederm UltraPlus XC, Juvederm Voluma, and Vollure are some fillers we use to treat areas that require more support or have deeper folds. Areas we treat with these fillers include nasolabial folds, marionettes, temples, cheeks, chin, and jawline. By using our advanced injection techniques, we can restore the youthful structure of the face and enhance areas if desired.
Lip restoration or enhancement:
Depending on your desired treatment goals, we utilize Restylane or Juvederm products to restore lost volume in lips, smooth lines and wrinkles, rehydrate lips, or enhance and plump them. We hand select the right product for you to achieve your perfect pout. Click here to see more photos of lip filler treatments done in our office.
Liquid facelift:
Using our signature liquid facelift technique, we can achieve excellent results without the downtime and scarring associated with surgical procedures. We pair advanced injection with a selection of various thickness fillers to restore the needed volume in the face. By utilizing multiple products, we achieve natural and long-lasting improvement in facial volume depletion with minimal downtime.
Jawline Contouring and Chin Profile Correction:
The world does not see you 2D, so it is essential to have a balanced profile from all angles. Volume loss in the chin and jawline can lead to heavy-looking jowls and an undefined jawline. Using fillers, we can lift, enhance, restore and sculpt a jawline that fits your profile.

Kybella Filler
Kybella is the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of a double chin (submental fullness) and jawline. Kybella can also be used off-label to treat Jowls, abdominal fat, and stubborn bra fat.
Kybella is a non-surgical quick treatment that is customized to fit your goals. Kybella is a naturally occurring molecule already present in your body (deoxycholic acid) that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Most patients respond to just two or three treatments with no further injections necessary. They report more confidence and satisfaction with the appearance of their face and chin. Once the chin profile is improved, the patient will not need to be treated with Kybella again.

Things to Know
- The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and formation of areas of hardness around the treatment area, which resolve themselves without additional intervention.
- The number of injections and treatments are tailored to the patient’s condition and goals.
- Most patients experience visible results in two or three treatments. Up to six treatments may be administered.
- Most patients experience little to no downtime.
- Not all patients are candidates for Kybella. Please schedule a consultation to discuss.

RESTYLANE EYELIGHT Filler
Restylane® Eyelight™ is a solution for individuals troubled by tired-looking eyes, characterized by dark shadows and under-eye hollows that persist regardless of rest. This common aesthetic concern affects both genders across various ages and is often attributed to a lack of volume in the tear trough area beneath the eyes. Utilizing Restylane® Eyelight™ as a filler can help to rejuvenate the under-eye region, aiming to create a brighter, more youthful appearance. According to a recent survey many people think their tired-looking eyes make them feel older and don’t match how they feel.
