Cosmetic relaxers temporarily reduce muscle contractions and smooth skin wrinkles in the treatment area. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and there is no downtime. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Results start appearing 2-5 days after the treatment and last 3-4 months.
Botox (manufactured by Allergan) and Dysport (manufactured by Galderma) are “Relaxers.” Each brand has a slightly different recipe of the same substance, Botulinum toxin A, but they all work the same way. Both products can help reduce or eliminate wrinkles and fine lines caused by repeated muscle contraction. The most important aspect of using these different products is not which one you choose, but ensuring that a reputable and respected provider is injecting you. Dr. Scheel and her PAs have years of training and experience in relaxer injections.
At Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology, the most commonly treated areas include the crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines on the forehead, “11’s” between the eyebrows, vertical lip lines, “bunny lines” on the nose, down turning of the mouth corners, chin wrinkles and the platysmal bands – bands on the neck that stand out when you talk and pull down the lower face. Botulinum toxin A is also highly effective in treating excessive underarm sweating or hyperhidrosis.
We believe in a natural look and don’t “overdo it” with our patients. With regular upkeep and visits to our injection specialists. You will find you look rejuvenated, more youthful, refreshed, and relaxed.
While many people in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s come in to treat the lines that have already developed, there has been a movement of younger people seeking treatment to prevent lines and wrinkles from ever happening in the first place. “Brotox” is also becoming mainstream among men, who in the United States get more than half a million injections every year.
Dr. Scheel is a Board Certified Dermatologist and has been using these relaxers for over 15 years. A knowledgeable injector will soften lines and features with the goal of relaxing lines instead of “freezing” the face. We use a numbing cream to minimize discomfort and offer a free follow up visit/touch-up to make sure everything is perfect!

Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) is a unique type of filler that utilizes one’s own collagen synthesis to treat volume loss. Sculptra is used to lift and fill in deeper volume loss and folds, such as cheeks, chin, jawline, temples, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. Sculptra can also help improved thin and crepey skin and shallow smile lines. It works gradually by stimulating collagen, producing a more refined, natural-looking appearance that can last up to two years.
Some people get the rejuvenating results they want with only one treatment, but most skin issues respond best to two to three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Because Sculptra’s effects are so long-lasting, a trained and experienced practitioner must do the procedure. Call our office to see if Sculptra is the right filler for you.

As we age, our face loses volume causing our cheeks to flatten and skin to sag. This volume loss starts in our 20s and becomes more noticeable as we age. Juvederm Voluma XC temporarily adds volume and reverses these signs of aging, and our office is the most experienced Voluma injector in Hawaii.
Juvederm Voluma XC is the first FDA-approved injectable gel that instantly adds natural-looking volume to your cheek area. It can provide contour and a subtle lift for up to two years!
We will discuss your goals during your visit, examine your skin, and determine the amount to inject. Voluma is unique in that it contains anesthetic lidocaine to reduce pain at the injection site. Most patients require a touch-up treatment approximately one month after the initial treatment.
After treatment, most clinical study patients rated themselves as looking an average of 5 years younger within six months of their treatment. They also reported an improvement in overall satisfaction with their facial appearance two years after their last treatment.

- Avoid aspirin, vitamin E, Fish Oil, and Ibuprofen one week before treatment as it may increase bruising.
- Avoid dental procedures and vaccinations 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after filler treatment.

Whether you were born with lush lips that have lost their plumpness with age, or you never had full lips to begin with but want a more youthful look, Volbella is an excellent solution.
Volbella also softens the appearance of vertical lip lines above the lips, often caused by sun exposure or repeated muscle movement (smiling, sipping, puckering, smoking, etc.).
Volbella is the first and only FDA-approved filler proven to rejuvenate your lips’ appearance for up to 12 months with just one treatment and restore fullness while providing a gorgeous, smooth look. Even those with naturally full lips will benefit from Volbella’s ability to enhance lip shape.
If you are worried that your lips will look unnatural or disproportionate after being treated, Volbella eliminates that problem by providing gentle contouring and plumping that doesn’t look harsh or too drastic.
Before & After Volbella
Below are before and after photos of two of our patients who’ve had Volbella injected. For those wanting even fuller-looking lips, Volbella can be layered with Juvéderm.

Kybella is the only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of a double chin (submental fullness) and jawline. Double chins are common aesthetic conditions which can affect many adults. It may develop naturally as you age, be a part of your genetics or be a result of weight gain. Some people can not reduce this fatty deposit on their own no matter how much they diet or exercise, resulting in a feature that can make them look older or heavier than they actually are.
Kybella is a non-surgical quick treatment that is customized to fit your goals. Kybella is a naturally-occurring molecule already present in your body (deoxycholic acid) that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells cannot store or accumulate fat
Most patients respond to just two or three treatments with no further injections necessary. They report more confidence and satisfaction with the appearance of their face and chin. Once the chin profile is improved, the patient will not need to be treated with Kybella again.

Is your skin starting to look thin and wrinkled? Crepey skin can result from aging, lack of moisture, excessive weight loss, and sun exposure. Collagen and elastin in our skin keep our skin tight and wrinkle-free. But the ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays breaks down the collagen and elastin in our skin. However, don’t fret; there is a solution to this…..Hyperdilute Radiesse!
You can use Hyperdilute Radiesse with a canula in areas you have crepey skin. This filler can be injected into your neck, knees, butt, arms, face, and almost any other body part you can think of. Hyperdilute Radiesse is a filler used with a cannula to plump wrinkled skin or folded areas of the skin, like crepey skin. After it is injected, Hyperdilute Radiesse stimulates your natural collagen growth. This is why your immediate results, post-injection, will only improve.
These pictures are of our patient who had one syringe per area; this is one treatment. These patients also applied our Retinol Body lotion twice daily for 3 weeks after her treatment to enhance the effect of collagen stimulation and hydration.
For additional results, we recommend adding CO2 laser or a second treatment 4-6 weeks later. This injectable is known to last over a year.
From Our Patients
From the minute you walk through the doors, the experience starts! I love everything about this office. From the staff, the products, and the many different procedures they offer. I have had everything from Botox , chemical peels and basal cell skin cancer removals. Regardless of the treatment or procedure the staff is extremely qualified and there to help you every step of the way.
I came to Dr. Scheel’s office with a lot of sun damage accumulated over the years having lived in sunny climates most of my life. After just one IPL session, almost all the brown spots on my face disappeared. I was so happy with the results that I dared to try something I didn’t think I’d ever do … botox & fillers. Bye bye wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, hello plumper lips! I’m totally sold on these treatments and highly recommend Dr. Scheel and her staff if you have any skin-related concerns, cosmetic or medical. In fact, next time I’m going in for a skin exam because one of the PAs who gave me a peel recently noticed some spots on my arm that might be of concern. I love that they are not only focused on the cosmetic side of things but also on the lookout for medical issues that I may not have noticed. That’s genuine care of their patients!
