How often do I have to come in, or how long does it last?
With adequate care, the results can last up to one year before beginning to fade. We recommend purchasing the Perioscience toothpaste and the Dr.Monica Scheel Teeth Whitening LED Home Kit as the ideal home maintenance system to ensure lasting results. Using this toothpaste daily, and depending on how many staining agents are in one’s lifestyle, the LED home kit can be used as often as once a week or on an as-needed basis for proper care. Along with this, we recommend a semi-annual or annual in-office “touch-up” treatment to keep your teeth white and your smile shining bright.
Can I do this if I have restorations such as crowns or veneers?
Yes. Although tooth-colored restorations will not whiten more than the shade the dentist placed them as, they do pick up stains over time. Our in-office whitening system can brighten them by returning the restoration to its original shade, creating a more uniform color throughout your smile.
Can I do this if I have sensitive teeth to home whitening strips or overall teeth sensitivity?
Yes, our patented formula of hydrogen peroxide gel and treatment protocol maximizes the benefits of the teeth whitening process while minimizing the risk of teeth sensitivity. We carefully hand-paint the gels onto your teeth to avoid contact with your gums.
Can I do this if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, we do not treat pregnant or breastfeeding patients.
How old do I have to be for treatment?
18 and older, or individuals 12 to 17 with legal guardian signed consent.
What is the difference between this and my dentist’s teeth whitening?
The fresh hydrogen peroxide gel we use is patented and custom formulated for Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology. The commonly used teeth whitening gel used in dental offices is carbamide peroxide that has a longer shelf life but does not provide maximum whitening.
