Laser
Aesthetic Laser treatments – We have a variety of lasers to treat and target any skin concern from hair reduction to skin resurfacing. All of our laser treatments help to stimulate the growth of new skin cells and the production of collagen a protein that gives skin its structure. Age decreases the body’s ability to build new collagen, so by stimulating its production, laser skin resurfacing can help the skin appear plumper. We use top-of-line laser machines and have a variety of different lasers so that we can customize the best treatment for our patients so they are able to achieve desired results.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light, which uses a type of Light therapy to minimize or resolve:
- Age spots
- Sun Damage
- Broken Blood Vessels
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Acne Scarring
- Freckles
IPL is similar to a laser treatment, however, while a laser focuses on one wavelength of light to your skin, an IPL releases a light of many different wavelengths. An IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin, the dermis without harming the top layer of your skin (epidermis). The Pigment cells are targeted by the light wavelength and are converted to heat. The heat then destroys the sun spots or unwanted pigment.
At Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology our Aesthetic providers will evaluate your skin type and your skin needs to best treat your concerns. Consultations are available to schedule with our laser provider team to give you the best results.
How many treatments would I need?
Depending on the desired goal, we typically recommend 1-3 IPL treatments. For maintenance treatments, we recommend 1 IPL a year.
How do I prepare for my IPL treatment?
Discontinue sun tanning, the use of tanning beds and any application of sunless tanning at least 1 month prior to treatment. 1 Week prior to IPL treatment we want you to discontinue any Retin-A, Differin, Glycolic acid and any alpha-hydroxy acid products.
The day of your IPL treatment we want you to come in with clean skin.
What should I expect after my IPL treatment?
Normally your skin feels like a mild sunburn with light erythema. If pigment is what we’re treating, you will notice your brown spots get darker over the next 24-48 hours. The darker pigmented spots will look like “coffee grounds” and will begin to slough off within the next 7-10 days and will continue to fade over the next 6-8 weeks. The red vessels also known as “telangiectasia” will also begin to resolve.
IPL treatments are effective in achieving an overall even tone and reduction of pigmentation and red vessels giving our patients a healthy glowing appearance. Book a consultation with one of our certified laser providers.

Laser Hair Removal
Unwanted hair is a common problem for both men and women. Frequent hair removal tasks such as shaving, depilatories, plucking, and waxing can be time consuming, inconvenient, and often painful. At best, these methods offer only temporary results. Free yourself from the constant need to shave and wax unwanted hair. The Vectus Laser brings us a permanent solution to remove unwanted hair, leaving your skin feeling smooth.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
During laser hair removal, a laser device emits light energy that travels through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and hair shaft. Pigments are the substances that give skin and hair its color. This energy damages the hair follicle, which impairs its ability to grow.
Things to Know
- Hair is permanently reduced
- Ingrown hair resolve in 1-2 treatments
- No downtime
- Not painful
- Less expensive than waxing over time
- Temporary redness may occur
- Sun protection recommended during treatment
- Shaving is allowed during treatment
- Dark follicles are removed, and skin is smoother after treatment
- Blonde and gray hair is not effectively treated
- Multiple treatments are recommended for the best results
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Shave the area being treated before your appointment.
Discontinue all waxing, plucking, and tweezing on the areas being treated six weeks before and during your sessions.
Discontinue excessive UV exposure, tanning, and tanning beds and tanning creams on the areas receiving treatment, four weeks before your appointment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?
Immediately after the treatment, there may be redness around the treatment site, which may last up to a couple of days but usually subsides within the first few hours. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a mild sunburn for the first few days. You may resume normal activities immediately after treatment
Avoid sun exposure on the treated area and use a sunscreen SPF 45 or higher at all times throughout treatment.
Anywhere from 7-30 days after treatment, shedding of the hair may occur, and this may appear as new hair growth; this is not all new hair growth, but mostly dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle.
WHAT AREAS CAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREAT?
The Vectus Laser can remove hair from many areas, including the face, back, chest, arm, underarm, bikini, and legs.
CAN THE LASER GET RID OF ALL OF MY UNWANTED HAIR?
Since our hair grows in different phases, no laser treatment can achieve 100% hair removal, but it is possible to significantly reduce the number of growing hairs by as much as 85%. Multiple treatments are recommended for maximum results.
IS HAIR REMOVAL PERMANENT?
Hair removal is permanent. Hair follicles in the anagen phase, or growth phase, are targeted by the laser. After treatment, those follicles are permanently unable to produce new hairs or can produce only very thin, tiny hairs that are virtually invisible.
CAN ANYONE HAVE THIS TREATMENT?
Laser hair removal is effective on individuals with dark hair anywhere on their face or body. Individuals with very light or gray hair are not ideal candidates. Any skin color can be treated, as the laser is effective on light and dark skin types. Speak with one of our providers to discuss if you are a good candidate.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Most people feel only a slight “snap,” like a rubber band at the treatment site during the procedure. You will also feel cooling on your skin as the handpiece glides over the treatment area.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Since your hair grows in three stages, several treatments are needed to affect all of the unwanted hair. The number of treatments can vary between individuals, depending on the amount of hair, the area to be treated, skin color, hair color, and hair coarseness.
Typically 4 – 6 treatments are needed, but this will depend on several factors. One of our providers can give you a more specific treatment plan during your consultation.
HOW FAR APART ARE TREATMENT SESSIONS?
It depends on which area is getting treated. In general, face, underarms, arms, and bikini are approximately 4-6 weeks apart. Back, chest, and legs are approximately 8-10 weeks apart.
HOW MUCH DOES THE TREATMENT COST?
Treatment costs vary depending on the size of the area to be treated.

PicoSure Tattoo Removal
PicoSure is the world’s first picosecond laser and the only advanced tattoo removal laser with PressureWave technology; it works with your body to remove unwanted ink. PicoSure delivers laser energy that specifically targets tattoo ink, resulting in the break up of the ink particles without harming the surrounding tissue. Best of all, PicoSure tattoo removal often requires fewer treatments than traditional laser tattoo removal.
PicoSure works effectively on:
- Multicolored tattoos, including blues and greens
- Black ink
- Stubborn, previously treated tattoos
How does it work?
PressureWave technology is used to deliver ultra-short pulses of specialized energy to targeted ink particles. These pulses are so rapid they cause a change in pressure that breaks ink apart into tiny dust-like particles. These tiny particles are then absorbed by the lymphatic system, a critical part of your body’s immune system, and eliminated naturally.
What does the procedure feel like
Laser tattoo removal has been described as feeling similar to the actual tattooing process. PicoSure relies on pressure changes instead of just heat to break apart ink particles but some patients may feel some discomfort. We offer topical numbing cream, lidocaine injections, and cool air with our Zimmer Chiller to make your experience more comfortable.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments needed is dependent on variables such as ink characteristics, size of tattoo, location on body, and lifestyle habits.
Treatments typically occur every 6-8 weeks and your treatment provider will develop a treatment plan to meet your individual needs.
What is the downtime?
You may expect a sunburn-like sensation after the numbing injections has worn off. It is recommended that you avoid direct sunlight or the ocean until the area treated is healed. A side effect that some people experience is blistering.

Resurfacing Laser
CO2 Laser
The CO2 laser treatment is recommended for moderate to severe wrinkles, sun damaged skin and lips, precancers and severe scars. The CO2 laser targets the dermis layer deep within the skin. The treatment results in collagen production, skin tightening and thickening, and overall rejuvenation. The skin will have a smoother, tighter texture and pigmentation problems will improve.
You will need to follow specific skin care instructions after this treatment, and there will be downtime. You will notice a significant improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and discoloration in about 4 to 6 weeks after the laser.
Book here for a consultation; let us evaluate your skin and choose a customized treatment program that is specifically designed for you. At your consultation appointment, we would also perform test spots to find the right settings for you with the goal to maximize your results while providing a safe treatment.
Micro CO2 Laser
Our Micro CO2 treatment utilizes our top of the line Fractionated CO2 laser, but offers a lower intensity treatment for those that don’t have the time to commit to a full week of skin healing. Utilizing micro settings, the CO2 laser resurfaces the outer layer of the skin while helping tighten and stimulate collagen. The results are a refreshed glow, improved skin quality, and reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. The micro-laser treatment takes an average of three to four days to heal. We recommend a series of three treatments at one month intervals. A yearly Micro CO2 is recommended for maintenance. Please make a consultation to see if this laser is the best option to reach your desired goals.
Things to Know
- Resurfaces moderate to severe wrinkles and scars
- Evens skin tone and texture
- Stimulates collagen production
- Improves skin health by addressing pre-cancerous lesions and sun damage
- Be prepared for some downtime
- Redness may persist for a period of time after the procedure

Potenza RF Microneedle
Potenza RF Microneedling implements two different technologies (microneedling and radio frequency energy) into one treatment to firm, tighten and rejuvenate the skin. One treatment of Potenza RF Microneedling is equivalent to up to 5 standard microneedling treatments. With 4 different RF modes, we can target laxity (face and body), acne scarring, deeper fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and more!
Is there downtime after a Microneedling Treatment?
The downtime after a Potenza treatment is minimal and less maintenance compared to standard microneedling post care. The skin will have a mild sunburn sensation and erythema improves after the first day of treatment.
Can PRP be paired with a Microneedling Treatment?
Providers can infuse diluted neuromodulators with Potenza, as well as PRP.
