I want to talk about the pros and cons of my favorite moisturizers: Dr. Monica Scheel’s Restorative Bio-Therapy Moisturizer and Bio-Therapy Age Repair Moisturizer. At first glance they sound almost identical, though the pictures above show they are very different! I soon realized they each fill a completely different role in my skincare process after I incorporated them into my routine.
Restorative Bio-Therapy Moisturizer
I like to think of the Restorative Bio-Therapy Moisturizer as a nighttime treat. It is rich, comforting, and super creamy. I love using it after cleansing and applying my retinol in the evening. It helps repair the skin’s barrier while locking in hydration, thanks to a combination of ceramides, peptides, stem cells, antioxidants, and emollients.
It softens, soothes, and makes my skin feel protected overnight. When I wake up, my face feels calm and bouncy, but not greasy. If you’ve ever felt like your skin was a little angry from retinol or sun, this is the product that resets everything. There is a fragrance, and normally I like my products fragrance-free, but this one is not too overpowering.
The packaging on the Restorative Bio-Therapy Moisturizer is also nice. It uses a pump system instead of a jar, so you don’t have to stick your fingers in the product. It stays cleaner, and you waste less. When you think you’re running out, you can even unscrew the lid and scoop out the last bit. It’s the thoughtful details like that which make it a favorite in my personal routine.
Bio-Therapy Age Repair Moisturizer
On the other hand, the Bio-Therapy Age Repair Moisturizer is more of my daytime hero, especially when I travel or my skin starts feeling dry. It’s a bit lighter than the Restorative but still deeply hydrating. Packed with niacinamide, it works to calm inflammation, smooth skin texture, minimize pores, and brighten skin.
Niacinamide is a powerhouse ingredient that also supports collagen production, which means fewer fine lines and wrinkles down the road. I love that I can layer this moisturizer under sunscreen without feeling heavy or sticky, which is a big deal in Hawaii’s humidity. These days, there are a lot of products with niacinamide, and I don’t like to layer it.
When Should I Use Them?
Most of the time at home, I use the Restorative Bio-Therapy Moisturizer at night and don’t worry too much about a heavy daytime moisturizer since the island keeps my skin hydrated. But when I’m traveling and my skin is drier, I’ll switch to the Bio-Therapy Age Repair Moisturizer under SPF, and my skin stays happy.
If you’re someone with sensitive skin, you’ll probably love the Restorative’s ultra-calming formula, while the Age Repair will give you that subtle firming and brightening boost, thanks to its niacinamide and antioxidant blend.
The Restorative is like your cozy nighttime blanket, perfect for skin recovery and deeper hydration. The Age Repair is more like your daytime lightweight sweater, offering protection, glow, and age-defying benefits without overwhelming your skin. If you’ve been debating which one to try, my advice is this: get both. Use the Restorative at night, especially if you’re using actives like retinol, and keep the Age Repair handy for daytime or those drier days. You’ll have all your bases covered, and your skin will thank you.
Alternatively, you can schedule a skin care consultation with Raella and she can make a customized routine for you. They are free, so I do this every time a new product comes out.
