When one of my closest friends invited me to a three-day wedding in Alaska with our old ski buddies, I immediately turned to PA Victoria at Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology in Kona for help. I wanted to get “wedding-weekend ready,” so I booked an appointment just before my trip. We talked through what would give me that refreshed, radiant look without any downtime. She suggested doing a round of relaxers, paired with a treatment I hadn’t tried yet—Aquagold.
And let me just say: it was my favorite treatment of the entire year.
What is Aquagold?
I had already been feeling the buildup of months of work, pregnancy, being a new mom, and not having the most consistent skincare habits. I wanted to look like I was glowing but natural—like myself, just better. Victoria explained that Aquagold is a superficial microneedling treatment that uses 20 tiny, gold-plated needles to infuse a custom blend of ingredients into the surface of the skin.
Victoria’s amazing MA, Sena, mixed up a custom cocktail for my skin: Restylane Silk for hydration and volume, plus Dysport to help blur pores and fine lines. And because I never skip treating my neck and chest, we treated those areas too—they’re so often neglected by many people, even though they show aging just as much (if not more!) than our faces.
Impressive Results
I didn’t numb before the treatment, but she told me I could if I wanted to—it was truly that gentle. On the pain scale, I gave it a rate of 0 to 1. Victoria was so careful and skilled, and she made the entire appointment fly by with her warmth and hilarious stories. It was such a relaxing half hour, I almost forgot I was getting the treatment done!
By the time I got to Alaska, my skin was glowing. No visible pores, no dullness—just smooth, hydrated, dewy skin that looked amazing in photos (and even better in real life). It was the perfect no-makeup glow.
I’ve had a lot of treatments over the years, but this one seriously impressed me. The glow, the texture, the zero downtime—it checked all the boxes. And the fact that it paired so perfectly with my regular relaxer appointment? Total win.
From now on, I’ll be adding AquaGold to my regular visits. It’s my go-to for big events—or honestly, anytime I want a boost.
