IRONMAN® Skin Cancer Screening

The Melanoma Research Foundation and Dr. Monica Scheel Dermatology are partnering again to screen athletes, families, community members and IRONMAN® expo attendees on Oct 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th! Last year, we screened over 300 people! At a normal screening, we expect to find one melanoma for every 100 people screened. At this screening we found 9 melanomas making this 3 times the national average. We believe this is because this group is high risk from intense UV exposure. We also found over 50 pre-cancers, basal cell cancers and squamous cell cancers. Please come by to have a spot checked by our office staff or Dr. Scott Dale, a Dermatologist from Arizona who for the past 3 years has volunteered at this screening with us!  Located in the IRONMAN® Village at Hale Halawai on Ali`I Drive and Hualalai Road, the screenings are from 12-4pm on Tuesday and 9-4pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We do need volunteers for a 4 hour shift on any of these days! We need both folks to do education and also medical people to help with the screening. We’ll do our training day on Monday night before (Oct 6) with an education and pizza party. To thank you for volunteering we will give you a gift certificate for our office.
