Latisse: My Secret to Longer, Darker, Fuller Lashes

Some people just win the lash lottery; most are not as lucky. In my family, that lucky someone is my brother. I, on the other hand, spent years relying on curlers and layers of mascara. It workssort of. I get midday smudges, evening flakes, and the same routine all over again the next morning. It’s quite the hassle, especially if you live on an island with a plethora of water sports to engage in where mascara will not win.

A Game Changer

When I started working in dermatology, I kept hearing about Latisse. I knew it was prescription-only and had a solid track record, but I was still skeptical. Was it really different from another “miracle” serum? I got a prescription, brought home the tiny bottle and sterile applicators, and decided to give my mascara wand a break.

Here’s what the routine actually looked like: every night, after cleansing, I ran a single, whisper-thin line of Latisse along the upper lash line. That’s it. No lower lashes. No globbing. Just consistent, nightly use. Latisse’s active ingredient is bimatoprost, and the magic is beautifully simple: it encourages more lashes to enterand stayin their growth phase. Over time, that means lashes that are longer, fuller, and naturally darker.

Consistency is Key

The timeline felt surprisingly manageable. A few weeks in, I noticed less clumping when I used mascara; around two months later, my curler was basically retired; and by four months, my mom started asking what mascara I’d switched to. If you stop using it, lashes gradually return to their old selves, so I kept it in my nightly routine. It’s become as automatic as brushing my teeth.

Because this is a real medication, we do a quick screening to make sure it’s right for you. Most people do great with it, and some experience a bit of temporary redness or irritation at the lash line. For those who wear contact lenses, simply pop your lenses out before application and wait a few minutes before reinserting. The biggest “secret” to success is consistency and keeping the product on the upper lash line only.

Do I have my brother’s genetics? Alas, no. But thanks to Latisse, I’m not trying to fake what I don’t have anymore. My lashes finally show up on their own, and they look amazing without the high-maintenance routine.

If you’re curious whether Latisse is a good fit for you, I’m happy to chat, answer questions, and get you set up with a prescription at your next visit. We’ll walk through proper use, what to expect, and how to fold it into your routine so your results last.

I try to include before and after photos when I have them! (I had stopped using Latisse while I was pregnant and nursing, but you can still see the difference!)

If you want to try it and you have an Alle account, grab this coupon and add it to your wallet.
