Erbium Skin Resurfacing and the Treatment of Pre-Cancers

The Erbium Laser is a state-of-the-art advancement for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. It resurfaces the skin by vaporizing the top layers where pre-cancers, or Actinic Keratoses, are forming. The pre-cancers slough off and new, invigorated, healthy skin forms after laser therapy. This treatment not only destroys pre-cancers that you can see, it also destroys those that are forming in the skin that are not yet detectable, thereby preventing skin cancer. This is an excellent medical treatment and also very effective for skin rejuvenation. It is a wonderful collagen stimulator, reduces brown spots and mild to moderate wrinkles and requires less downtime than the CO2 laser.
There has been a huge demand by many of our male patients to use the erbium laser as an alternative to the “Blu-U” treatment or topical chemotherapy for their pre-cancers. The guys (and gals!) love it because it has the least amount of downtime, doesn’t confine them to a dark room and gives excellent results in eradicating pre-cancers. The best candidates for the erbium laser are those people who have had several troublesome pre-cancers that keep popping up. Most of these patients spend their leisure time in the sun, such as boaters, golfers, athletes and surfers. Treatment areas include face, scalp, neck, chest, arms or legs, depending on where the pre-cancers are forming.
A series of treatments is needed for most effective eradication of pre-cancers. Bills can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement on a portion of the cost.
Below are before and after photos of one of our male patients. Prior to the erbium laser treatment, he had a number of pre-cancers, especially around his mouth and ears. Afterwards, those areas are now cleared up and his skin wellness has been considerably improved!
